FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQs

  • I’ve never done Pilates or the GYROTONIC® method before. What is the best way to get started?

A great way to get an introduction to these movement modalities is through private sessions. The new client introductory package includes three in-studio, private, 50-minute sessions for $165- or choose the virtual sessions option! By doing three sessions, you will form a solid foundation of the exercises to feel confident moving into group classes or continuing to dive deeper with 1:1 sessions. This introductory schedule here.

  • All bodies are unique and have specific needs. One form of movement may be better suited for your body or learning style, but that could also change from season to season - or it could be a combination of both that your body desires! You can go here to view detailed descriptions of Pilates, and the Gyrotonic Method. You can also try the methods out by renting a video from the on-demand class library, just simply message me for the access password!

I am also happy to talk with you about your fitness and wellness goals to help find what combination of movement works best for you. You can always reach me at reachrootmovement@gmail.com

  • You should always be comfortable during your movement sessions, and that includes your clothing. Wear something that allows you to move freely and not distract you. Socks are also encouraged.

  • For your first 1:1 in-studio session, arrive a few minutes early. This will give you time to get acquainted with the studio, change clothes or grab water. At the start of your session, we will take some time to get to know each other and talk through your goals and preferences. You will not need to bring anything other than yourself. I have all of the props and equipment you will need. We will work through some movement and evaluate what direction to go for future sessions to align with your goals. My hope is that after every session you feel energized and maybe even a little taller!

  • While my scope of practice does not involve treating or diagnosing specific injuries, I have had experience working through movement with many populations. I have worked with children to older adults with a range of conditions and goals. I have worked with pre/post natal clients, inflammatory arthritis, athletic related-injuries, frozen shoulder, scoliosis, osteoporosis, stenosis, cerebral palsy, myotonic dystrophy, pre/post op-hip and knee replacements, and hyper-mobility to name a few. If we come across something in a session I don't have an answer for, I have a great collective of other professionals that I can get information or referrals from. Most importantly, my sessions are always collaborative with you. Together we make sure that you do not move through anything painful, and only do movement that feels safe for you.

  • Yay! Virtual classes are a great way to add more consistent movement to your schedule.

You will recieve a link both when you sign up for class as well as in the email reminder for the class 24 hours piror. Having your video camera on is optional based on your comfort level, but I do love to see your faces and share our energy together!

If there isn't a group class that fits your schedule, feel free to reach out! You can also always book a duet or trio session with some friends!

  • Becoming a GYROTONIC® Instructor was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It has had a profound effect on not only the way I teach, but also the way I understand movement in my own body. Anyone with a passion for teaching movement, in my biased opinion, should participate in GYROTONIC® Instructor training.

I conduct pre-training courses, which is the first step you'll need to do to become a GYROTONIC® instructor. In this course, you will learn and embody the Level 1 GYROTONIC® material and fundamenal concepts to deepen your understanding of the movement. This course is apporopriate for both interested teachers as well as for movement practitioners who are just looking for an in depth GYROTONIC® experience. After you complete the pre-training course, you will then move onto the GYROTONIC® foundation course to learn teaching methodologies and hands-on cueing techniques with a master trainer.
